Immigration and Social Justice Issues

Kathleen Moss will be speaking about action-oriented options for education as well as advocacy with regard to Immigration and Racial Justice issues locally, as a liaison from Unidos Bridging Communities. She will have plenty of options for different sizes of projects and volunteer opportunities, and will take questions from folks who would like information about next steps.

Speaker Bio

Kathleen Moss is a human rights activist from Portland who has been living in Yamhill County for the past eight years. She became politically active after adopting her former foster daughter who is Mexican, as a single mom. She has led college students on trips to Guatemala to learn about the root causes of migration to the US. She has been a volunteer with Unidos for three years, and is now a Community Organizer with the ELCA Synod of Oregon, serving in the formation of Unidos’ new Rapid Response program, as well as being a liaison to churches in McMinnville and Newberg. As a result of her ties to churches in the area, she was able to recruit, train and support over 70 volunteer drivers to serve in the release of over 100 asylum seekers who were detained in Sheridan Prison in 2018. She also guided the formation of a second and third temporary shelter for the same asylees, in Newberg and in Portland. She is coming to join the UU community this month to share ways that we can be involved in the work of education and advocacy for local families who are being haunted by ICE.
