Five Moral Foundations

Compelling research suggests that human decision-making is animated by five core moral foundations: concern for (1) harm/care (2) fairness/reciprocity (3) in-group/loyalty (4) authority/respect and (5) purity/sanctity. As between self-identified liberals and self-identified conservatives, the primary difference is which of these moral foundations they innately prioritize.

In this interactive service, come examine the basics of moral foundations theory, apply it in small group exercises, and walk away with valuable tools to help bridge the ever-growing divide between people who, at bottom, simply (and genuinely) see the world through different lenses.

Speaker Bio

Jay Nelson is a UUFM member, a husband, and a father. He tries to apply moral foundations theory in his criminal defense practice to successfully communicate with diverse decision-makers on behalf of his clients.
