UUFM BUSINESS MEETING
- SEPTEMBER 20, 2009
Kris Gabrielsen
opened the meeting at 11:50 after it was determined that a quorum of the
membership was present. 18 persons were
present.
Bev Halverson explained the budget and the additional
fees to the Senior Center for use of a separate room for toddlers - $40.00/
month. We are also required to pay payroll taxes for child care workers and the
pianist of $4.14/ month. Our cash on hand is $9,915.89, Reserve fund has
$4,000.70 and the Building fund $1,661.89
Kris Gabrielsen
thanked Brian DeMarco and Bev
Halverson for their work on revising the bylaws. Those present were asked if they had any
comments or suggestions about the revisions.
Tricia Crawford questioned the use of the work “disruptive” in Section
4.4 “Termination of Membership”. Brian DeMarco explained the need for this use and Kris elaborated
on the fact that a Policies and Procedures manual is
being worked on which will spell out the process for this and other policies.
Lynn Hughes moved “to accept the
Bylaws as is.” Susan Marrant
seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously passed. A copy of the bylaws will be sent to the
Secretary of State – Corporations Division.
Our membership list is being
reviewed to ensure it is current.
Membership stands at 44. However there are several members who have not
attended services for some time and they may be removed after they are called
to determine their interest. The hope is
to increase our membership to 50 by the end of our fiscal year. Ken Moore asked why it is important for
people to become members. If we have a
group of committed persons is it necessary for all to be members? Without a
minimum of signed up members we cannot join the national UUA. Bernie McGinnis and Kris Gabrielsen
explained that full membership in UUA can help with finding a minister, help
with long term planning and estate planning and that there are grants available
when a congregation has full membership. The PNW District has been very
supportive of us and encouraged our Emerging Congregation status. However, we should aim for full membership in
the next year or two.
Kris Gabrielsen
raised the question of getting help schlepping the RE materials for every
service. The Gabrielsens
need someone else to take on this job.
The question of storage was discussed and Ken Moore suggested asking if
the Senior Center would allow us to build a cupboard, to be placed in one of
the classrooms, for us to store all our various supplies. Bev Halverson will
look into this with Senior Center staff.
Susan Marrant,
Beth Dell and Dawn Williamson have volunteered to organize our Christmas party
to be held on December 20th. Patriciafaye Marshall will organize our Solstice
Service.
The meeting was adjourned at
12:45 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Pamela H. Bergen, Secretary
