Kris Gabrielsen called the meeting to order at 6:35 . She asked for any comments about the Sunday service. The Board felt it was a success and were pleased with Reverend Moro’s participation and inclusion of a children’s service.

A letter has been received from the Oregon Department of Commerce asking us to apply for a BIN number for worker’s compensation. Bernie McGinnis will ask Walt Gowell if this is necessary for us at the present time.

Beth Dell announced that a group is being put together to go the First Church in Portland on August 24th to hear Marilyn Sewell speak.

Bev Halverson reported that our first Pledge Drivetotaled $16,380.00, with the hope that there will be more to come. Calls will be made to those signed members who did not pledge on Sunday. This will help to clean up and organize our membership list. Bev will e-mail all those who have pledged too thank them and confirm their commitment.

The Worship Committee needs to find a leader. Leah Bloom was thanked for all her hard work and success in organizing and running this committee during the past year. The job entails finding and supporting a facilitator, making sure that the music and order of service are organized. Kris Gabrielsen will organize the August service and ask Tricia Crawford or Lynn Hughes if they would be willing to lead the committee next year.

Bev Halverson reported that our income and expenses fell within our budget for July. She was thanked for her expertise in setting up our budget and employing the software that makes the budget easy to understand. Our checking account is open at First Federal Savings and Loan in McMinnville, and she is going to open a savings account with them to start our building fund. A check for $500.00 from UUCSalem is our initial deposit.

Kris suggested that we should raise the amount paid our pianist from $20.00 to $30.00. Beverley Halverson moved and Leah Bloom seconded the motion. It was unanimously agreed to by the Board.

Bernie McGinnis presented a Background Check form, put together by him and Pam Bergen, based on one used by the UUCongregation in San Mateo, Ca. We are waiting to get a similar form from the Salem UUC to compare. However, it was felt that we should have an acceptable form in place for insurance coverage. Beverley Halverson moved and Leah Bloom seconded that we accept the version that Bernie McGinnis and Pam Bergen created. It was unanimously agreed to by the Board.

Elaine Taylor and the Membership Committee held a successful social get together on Sunday July 13th. Four interested persons attended and two of them came to our service on July 20th. An ad on Comcast and news items in the News Register brought two more persons to the July 20th service.

The Bring-a-Friend Pot Luck will be held on July 27th at Bernie McGinnis’s home from 3:00 to 5:00. So far twenty have signed up to be there.

Our next Board Meeting will be held on August 28th at Beverley Halverson’s home from 6:30 to 8:30.
