Daniel Lewkow of ACLU will be talking Jan 23rd, at First Unitarian Church, as a guest of the social justice group Ending the New Jim Crow. His topic will be the new program of the Portland ACLU chapter that addresses patterns of charging used by county district attorneys in Oregon. These DA’s hold the most powerful positions in our justice system, and their patterns of charging sometimes lead to excessive sentencing and to plea bargaining that does not serve justice. Because these are elected positions, it’s important that we voters consider these patterns and their effects. The session begins at 6:30 PM in the Eliot Chapel; enter through the breezeway from 12th Ave. You may contact Barbara Dow if you need more information (bdowpdx@gmail.com or 503 569-2865).
